    it’s lower than …
it’s lower than that it’s about $6 a watt if you buy premade…

    A google search of …
A google search of “elevator return energy”, found that modern elevator systems in tall buildings do have special drive mechanisms that generates return energy when the elevator is going down. Thus, the complete needed technology for storing residential solar energy in a special heavy-concrete-weighted solar energy storage elevator is already available. The “overall energy” use for tall building elevators is very small ( just the cost of resistance and inefficiency ). No explosive hydrogen.

At $10-15 a watt, its hardly affordable. I think solar will become popular around $1 a watt.

    I read your comment …
I read your comment and did a youtube search for solar street lights.

100s of solar street lights have been installed in Fallujah, Iraq. Have a look at the youtube video titled ‘Solar Streetlights for Fallujah.’

Solar power is popular in many places, particularly Africa, the middle east and even Germany and Sweden, it just hasn’t taken off here yet.

    I had a brain storm …
I had a brain storm the other day, there are hundreds of thousands of street lights in the UK, what if we were to place a one foot square solar panel on top of each one ?, during the hours of daylight the light is switched off anyway and the connection to the grid could be used to add power rather than take it !!!!, that would be a huge square footage of solar panels or P.V. panels with no impact on the countryside or places of outstanding natural beauty.

    I’m 40 and I can …
I’m 40 and I can remember talk on TV when I was a kid about tidal power and almost 30 years later it’s still not here, personally I think every lamp post should have a wind generator or a solar panel on top and tax breaks should be given to house’s that fit turbines or panels.

I feel the real problem is a lack of forward vision and a failure to invest in a large scale in renewable energy, maybe the current economic troubles will goad the Gov into moving off it’s …. we can but hope.

    Thats very true, …
Thats very true, the good thing is people are starting to look into renewable energy and many people are saying that the green energy age will be as big as the industrial revolution and the more recent internet boom. Renewable energy is one of the fastest growing technologies of our time.

    I’m kinda saddened …
I’m kinda saddened by the fact peak oil and energy security aren’t being talked about at all in this country, the oil fields in the north sea peaked in 1999 and are only going to decline from here on in which means year on year the UK is gonna have to import more and more oil at the same time as the supplies are declining and the new markets of China and India are fighting for a bigger share of whats left pushing up prices, the smart move for us would be to get into renewables heavily now.

    According to who …
According to who you believe the world has reached “peak oil” or will reach it within our lifetimes, energy, goods and services are going to increase in cost unless we bite the bullet and follow a much more aggressive renewable energy policy here in the UK.

BTW, I’ve got one of those solar battery rechargers and it works a treat ^_^
