Solar Powering Household Objects?

Jul 7th, 2009 by Mr.Burton

I’ve been doing a lot of experimenting with renewable energy lately, mostly with the kits you buy online for solar-powered cars and whatnot. My question is: how can you convert the electricity coming from the solar panel (positive and negative wires) into a standard household 120V AC current? Preferably DIY, but I’m open to buying some equipment, as long as it’s not expensive.

Inverters are rather complicated. The way that I would likely do it is set up a solar panel array so that I get somewhere around 12-14 v dc voltage. I would then use a car inverter to turn this power into the form used for household items. Inverters can be found for at least the range of 75 to 2500 watts, depending upon how big your solar panels are. hopefully this idea will help.

Here is the first inverter I found:

you will need to pass this DC current through and AC inverter.
