Side by side testing of eight solar water heating systems

How this DTI funded report on solar panel performance highlighted the need for zero carbon solar thermal systems because the operational carbon clawback exceeded 20% for some solar panels. To save energy, there was one zero carbon solar panel, Solartwin, whose design innovations were validated by the study. Solar energy is not negated by “parasitics” by the best solar panel designs.

    Many thanks for your comments, rustknight1. I am hopeful for future building codes and solar thermal incentives schemes. That they will eventually focus more on NET SYSTEM carbon and energy savings (rather than gross energy delivery from a panel) when these are eventually freed from the grip of old solar interests (for whom the big picture is not so important).
