   You can't really make a solar panel in a home shop. If you want to do a good solar project, consider solar heating your water. There's plenty of info out there on that.

   For heating water, use thin matt black painted pipes running to and fro infront of a reflective background.
   You could also add matt black fins to the pipes.

   Pass water through these pipes (like a car radiator) slowly to heat it up.

   I agree with David P. Additionally if you support the pipework in a well insulated box it makes it much more efficient, make sure the storage tank is also well insulated or you are just wasting time.
