How much does it cost to put solar panels on a house?

Jul 2nd, 2009 by Mr.Burton

I was wondering how much it would cost to have solar panels installed in my house it’s not a big house I thinks it’s about 1500-2000 square feet and please don’t answer with links where I can get a a guy to come out and tell me I want to only people who have do e it before or do it for a liveing

As you request, I won’t post a link for an installer. But truthfully, the only way to get any reasonable estimate of how much it will cost for your needs is to have an installer come out to your house, and do a free quote. You can always decline. The price depends on the size of system you need, which depends not on the square footage of the house, but how much electricity you use. And the electricity can vary 10:1 between someone who blasts the air conditioner all summer and another who has no air conditioner, and watches every watt. It also depends on how much sun your area gets. Lots of sun means a smaller system.

I did install panels on our house. It cost $12,000 net, and supplies essentially 100% of our electricity. Our house is 1800 square feet, but no A/C, no pool pump, no big screen TV, gas heat, gas stove, energy-saving lighting and appliances throughout. That was 2 1/2 years ago. Today, that same money buys a 30% larger system.

    at $400 a pc it would take around 20 panels if you have the cash, and can afford a bank of batteries [at least 10] and a converter
    $ 200 and a control panel. another $ 300 to $500
    you can,t just stick up solar panels and use them it takes a lot of other things to make it work
    That’s why no one doe,s it

    Solar panel prices will vary from state to state. You would have to check into the rebates for your state. There’s also a 30% federal tax credit and some utility companies offer them also. You can check out http://www.findsolar.com for certified installers in your area and prices. You can also check out http://www.maketheswitchtosolar.com This company rents solar panels. There’s no system to purchase, No installation cost, no permit issues and no maintenance fees for the life of the contract. Plus you would be locked into a flat monthly rental rate for up to 25 yrs that would be equal to what your paying now and in most case less than what your paying now. Hope this info helps
